A paraphrase of this psalm of David, who is praying for protection and forgiveness:

Feeling failure, we seek God’s mercy and help.

We ask for direction because God is our direction and salvation.

Although we have failed You many times, we remember your steadfast love and concern for those who fail and fumble.

The Lord is good and upright. He teaches his ways and shows his path to those who stray. His ways are love and faithfulness for those who keep his covenant and testimonies.

Prayer: O Lord, I lift up my soul. I put my trust in you. Have mercy, for your name’s sake. Forgive my sin for it is great. Amen.
