Prelude

Please stand as you are able.

Entrance Hymn #549 (green hymnal)

“Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven”

1  Praise, my soul, the King of heaven;
to his feet your tribute bring.
Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
evermore his praises sing.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise the everlasting King!

2  Praise him for his grace and favor
to our forebears in distress.
Praise him, still the same forever,
slow to chide and swift to bless.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Glorious in his faithfulness!

3  Tenderly he shields and spares us;
well our feeble frame he knows.
In his hands he gently bears us,
rescues us from all our foes.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Widely as his mercy flows.

4  Angels help us to adore him,
who behold him face to face.
Sun and moon bow down before him;
all who dwell in time and space.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise with us the God of grace.

C:  worthy to take the scroll and break its seals.

L:  By his blood he purchased for God

C:  people of every race and tongue, of every folk and nation.

L:  Christ made of them a kingdom

C:  and priests to serve our God.

L:  And they shall reign on earth forever.

C:  Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

The Apostles’ Creed

L:  God has made us his people through our Baptism into Christ. Living together in trust and hope, we confess our faith.

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
 creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
 He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
  and born of the virgin Mary.
 He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
  was crucified, died, and was buried.
 He descended into hell.
 On the third day he rose again.
 He ascended into heaven,
  and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
 He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
 the holy catholic Church,
 the communion of saints,
 the forgiveness of sins,
 the resurrection of the body,
 and the life everlasting. Amen.

Old Testament Canticle: LBW #16 (green hymnal)

“I Will Sing the Story of Your Love”

L:  I will sing the story of your love, O Lord,
and proclaim your faithfulness forever.

C:  I will sing the story of your love, O Lord,
and proclaim your faithfulness forever.

L:  In this place shall be heard again the sounds of joy and gladness,
the voice of the bridegroom and the bride.

C:  I will sing the story of your love, O Lord,
and proclaim your faithfulness forever.

L:  Here they offer praise and thanksgiving in the house of the Lord,
and we hear their voices shouting,
“Praise the Lord of hosts, for he is good, for his love endures forever.”

C:  I will sing the story of your love, O Lord,
and proclaim your faithfulness forever.

L:  Give thanks to him and bless his name;
the Lord is good, his love is everlasting,
and his faithfulness endures to all generations,
and his faithfulness endures to all generations.

C:  I will sing the story of your love, O Lord,
and proclaim your faithfulness forever.

Prayer of the Day

L:  The Lord be with you.

C:  And also with you.

L:  Let us pray.
Almighty and most merciful God, your bountiful goodness fills all creation. Keep us safe from all that may hurt us, that, whole and well in body and spirit, we may with grateful hearts accomplish all that you would have us do, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

C:  Amen.

Please be seated.

First Reading: 2 Kings 5:1-3, 7-15c

Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Aram, was a great man and in high favor with his master, because by him the LORD had given victory to Aram. The man, though a mighty warrior, suffered from leprosy. Now the Arameans on one of their raids had taken a young girl captive from the land of Israel, and she served Naaman’s wife. She said to her mistress, “If only my lord were with the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy.” When the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, “Am I God, to give death or life, that this man sends word to me to cure a man of his leprosy? Just look and see how he is trying to pick a quarrel with me.”
But when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent a message to the king, “Why have you torn your clothes? Let him come to me, that he may learn that there is a prophet in Israel.” So Naaman came with his horses and chariots, and halted at the entrance of Elisha’s house. 10 Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go, wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored and you shall be clean.” 11 But Naaman became angry and went away, saying, “I thought that for me he would surely come out, and stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, and would wave his hand over the spot, and cure the leprosy! 12 Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them, and be clean?” He turned and went away in a rage. 13 But his servants approached and said to him, “Father, if the prophet had commanded you to do something difficult, would you not have done it? How much more, when all he said to you was, ‘Wash, and be clean’?” 14 So he went down and immersed himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God; his flesh was restored like the flesh of a young boy, and he was clean.
15a-c Then he returned to the man of God, he and all his company; he came and stood before him and said, “Now I know that there is no God in all the earth except in Israel.”

  The word of the Lord.

C:  Thanks be to God.

Psalmody

“I Will Praise You, Lord” (Psalm 111)
Stephen Pearson

1  I will praise You, Lord.
I will praise You with my heart.
I will praise You, Lord,
and proclaim how great Thou art.
Lord, how great Thy works.
How majestic are Thy deeds.
And Thy righteousness
will endure eternally.

  Praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord, our God!

2  Oh, how gracious, Lord,
how compassionate are You!
You attend our needs,
and Your word is ever true.
In Your works, O Lord,
You are faithful, You are just.
And Your Word, O Lord:
in its precepts we can trust!

  Fear the Lord.
Fear the Lord.
Fear the Lord, our God!

  The fear of God brings us wisdom.
The faithful follow His Law.
He gives to us understanding —
Praise to God!

3  I will praise You, Lord.
I will praise You with my heart.
I will praise You, Lord,
and proclaim how great Thou art.
Lord, how great Thy works.
How majestic are Thy deeds.
And Thy righteousness
will endure eternally.

  Praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord, our God!
Our God!

Second Reading: 2 Timothy 2:8-15

Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David—that is my gospel, for which I suffer hardship, even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But the word of God is not chained. 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, so that they may also obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. 11 The saying is sure:
 If we have died with him, we will also live with him;
12 if we endure, we will also reign with him;
 if we deny him, he will also deny us;
13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful—
 for he cannot deny himself.
14 Remind them of this, and warn them before God that they are to avoid wrangling over words, which does no good but only ruins those who are listening. 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved by him, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly explaining the word of truth.

  The word of the Lord.

C:  Thanks be to God.

Please stand as you are able.

Gospel: Luke 17:11-19

L:  The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the 17th chapter.

C:  Glory to you, O Lord.

11 On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he entered a village, ten lepers approached him. Keeping their distance, 13 they called out, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” 14 When he saw them, he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were made clean. 15 Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. 16 He prostrated himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan. 17 Then Jesus asked, “Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they? 18 Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well.”

Hymn #693 (blue hymnal)

“Baptized in Water”

1  Baptized in water, sealed by the Spirit,
cleansed by the blood of Christ our king:
heirs of salvation, trusting his promise,
faithfully now God’s praise we sing.

2  Baptized in water, sealed by the Spirit,
dead in the tomb with Christ our king:
one with his rising, freed and forgiven,
thankfully now God’s praise we sing.

3  Baptized in water, sealed by the Spirit,
marked with the sign of Christ our king:
born of the Spirit, we are God’s children;
joyfully now God’s praise we sing.

Offertory: Hymn #292 (maroon hymnal)

“Give Thanks”

  Give thanks with a grateful heart,
give thanks to the Holy One,
give thanks because he’s given Jesus Christ, his Son.
Give thanks with a grateful heart,
give thanks to the Holy One,
give thanks because he’s given Jesus Christ, his Son.

  And now let the weak say, “I am strong,”
let the poor say, “I am rich,”
because of what the Lord has done for us.
And now let the weak say, “I am strong,”
let the poor say, “I am rich,”
because of what the Lord has done for us.
Give thanks!

 hallowed be thy name,
 thy kingdom come,

Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
 as we forgive those
  who trespass against us;

 forever and ever. Amen.

Sending Hymn #259 (green hymnal)

“Lord, Dismiss Us with Your Blessing”

1  Lord, dismiss us with your blessing,
fill our hearts with joy and peace;
let us each, your love possessing,
triumph in redeeming grace.
Oh, refresh us; oh, refresh us,
trav’ling through this wilderness.

2  Thanks we give and adoration
for your gospel’s joyful sound.
May the fruits of your salvation
in our hearts and lives abound.
Ever faithful, ever faithful
to your truth may we be found.

3  Savior, when your love shall call us
from our struggling pilgrim way,
let no fear of death appall us,
glad your summons to obey.
May we ever, may we ever
reign with you in endless day.

Dismissal

A:  Go in peace. Serve the Lord.

C:  Thanks be to God.
